The Town of Berlin's ice skating rink is
adjacent to the Berlin Town Office at 8 Shed Road. Ther e
is a warm-up hut, port-o-let and lights for night skating.
The switch to turn the lights on is located on the light
pole located at the "elbow" of the "L" shaped rink. Part
of the rink is utilized for hockey and part is reserved for
recreational skating.
Central Vermont Mem. Civic Center offers indoor public
skating at 11 Gallison Hill Road, Montpelier.
They are open most all Saturdays and Sundays from 4 PM to
5:15 PM from October to Feb. 26, 2011.
The Dog River Natural Area
adjacent to the
Riverton Fire Station where Crosstown Road intersects
Route 12 in Berlin offers a picnic table,
and park bench overlooking the Dog River.
Here you can access a couple of small swimming holes
or try your hand at fishing for natural
trout. It's also a good place to put in a
kayak for a couple mile paddle down river to Montpelier's Dog
River Recreation Area on Dog River Road.

U-32 High School on Gallison Hill Road in East Montpelier
grooms cross-country ski trails which are
good for trail running or walking in the summer. The
trailhead pictured at right may be found by parking in the
lot and proceeding to the far side of the running track.
The trailhead is located at the Northeast corner of the field-
hockey field on the far side of the track. U-32 also
has four tennis courts available
free to the public located at the north end of the running
track. Multiple sliding hills are
also located around the track at U-32.

Berlin Elementary School located at exit 7 of I-89 offers a
playground for children.
Irish
Hill trails are located on Brookfield
Road about a mile from the intersection of Paine Tpke. on the
western side of Berlin Pond where there is a small parking
lot. ATVs may use Darling Road Trail and Ridgeline
trail to the tower only. Mountain bikes may use the
same two trails and a network to the
north of Darling Road
Trail only. All wheeled vehicles may only use trails
between May 15 and Nov. 1. Maps are posted at the
trailhead as well as these links. Hikers, skiers, and
hunters all enjoy the public land as illustrated by this
map.
Recreationists should wear brightly colored clothing during
hunting season from September through December. You
might consider leaving the woods to the hunters during the
two weeks of deer hunting in Nov.
The Central Vermont
Bike Path is partially
constructed. When complete it will connect Montpelier,
Berlin, Barre City and Barre Town. The proposed
Berlin/Montpelier connector is on hold until the railroad
determines what unused rail bed it needs for granite
hauling.
