Berlin Segments A and B form integral portions
of the larger proposed Central Vermont Regional Path system.
This system would extend from the Dog River Recreation Area in
Montpelier through Berlin, Barre City, Barre Town, and
terminate in the village of Graniteville.
Berlin Segment A (3.8 kilometers) will extend
from Montpelier’s border at the Winooski River and follow an
unused rail bed to the Ames Plaza light. Segment A is part
of Vermont’s Bike and Pedestrian Program which provides 80%
federal funding and 10% state funding. A 10% local town
match is required. Berlin has raised its share through a
town ballot article and additional fundraising efforts and
has completed Conceptual Plans. Final Plans are nearly
complete, the Right-of-Way phase is underway and
construction is scheduled to begin in 2010. Montpelier’s
joint project will link the CV Civic Center and downtown
Montpelier to our path.
Berlin Segment B (1.18 km) is in it’s initial
analysis phase. It would extend from the Ames Plaza light to
the Barre City line following an unused rail bed and run
between the Stevens Branch River and Route 62. Segment B also
includes a bridge in back of the former Grand Union connecting
the path to the Barre-Montpelier Road shopping district. This
segment is not currently funded. In this joint analysis
project, Barre City is planning to link our segment to the
Granite Museum.
